Fireflies ON

“Lights OFF. Fireflies ON.” is an initiative by the University of Georgia Extension that encourages individuals to turn off outdoor lights at night to protect fireflies, as artificial lighting disrupts their mating signals. The program offers educational resources, including safe viewing practices and activities like the Firefly Fact Hunt, to promote firefly conservation and appreciation.

The Pollinator Census

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science initiative led by the University of Georgia, inviting residents of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida to count pollinators in their gardens each August to support pollinator conservation.

Community Forestry Academy

The Community Forestry Academy provides accessible online courses and resources to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills needed to manage and advocate for healthy urban forests. Focusing on topics like tree care, urban planning, and community engagement, the academy supports sustainable forestry practices to enhance the environmental, social, and economic benefits of urban trees.

Sustainable Agriculture at UGA

The University of Georgia’s Sustainable Agriculture program offers resources on production practices, livestock and forages, food safety, crops, financial tools, and general information to support sustainable farming. These resources are designed to assist urban farmers in implementing sustainable agriculture practices.

Irrigation Demonstration Site

The Irrigation Demonstration Site at the University of Georgia Griffin campus serves as a hub for training, research, and education on advanced irrigation technologies, benefiting industry professionals, homeowners, and researchers alike. It features four plots: three showcase the latest products from industry partners, and one is dedicated to UGA faculty and graduate student research.
